ATTENTION STUDENTS! Memorial Break

by Admin S. Goodson.

Attention Students! Please remember we will be on Memorial Break next week (Monday, May 31 through Friday, June 4).

Normal class hours will resume on Monday, June 7.

You may continue to work, submit work and contact teachers (and students), but please aware your IHS instructors and staff are on vacation too, and may not be able to grade or respond to you right away.

Staff will be checking in as they are able, so if something comes up that can not wait until normal hours resume, we will try to respond as soon as possible.

Thank you and everyone have a safe and enjoyable break!

ATTENTION: Students using Microsoft Word

by Admin S. Goodson.

IMPORTANT! Please read in its entirety! There have been a number of problems related to students continuing to copy and paste text directly from Microsoft Word into submitted text boxes. There are notices about this in the Student Tutorial and on the main page of nearly every course available. If you have not read the notice, please do so before you submit anymore text. This applies to text submitted to forums, eMail, online text assignments; in general, anywhere text is entered and submitted.

Please enter all text using one of the three options outlined, or make certain you use the MS Word clean up tool, as discussed in the Student Tutorial. Be aware that some types of formatting will be lost when you paste into Notepad (or similar) or use the MS Word clean up tool. For this reason it is better to wait and apply special formatting directly in the text submit editor (bold, italics, center positioning, ect.).

Not following these procedures has intermittently resulted in MS formatting corrupting HTML code to the point that data was lost or unusable, and has also effected grades and other recorded items. It takes a great deal of time to resolve these issues, so please help us by doing your part.

This is a problem because Microsoft Word (and other Microsoft applications) uses its own unique non-standard formatting, which often conflicts with other programs and applications. This is especially true regarding HTML (which IHS Moodle uses to display information) and databases (which how information for every action occurring within IHS Moodle is stored).

Thank you for your help in resolving this issue. By working together and following outlined instructions and procedures we can all be more productive and focus on helping our students learn.

Thank you,
IHS Staff
